Despite being veterans of both Sonic Bloom and BigUp music festivals, local bass makers Perileyes remain one of beantown’s best kept secrets in heavy bass music. The combined production prowess of Sheridan Willard and Liam Collins has resulted in some truly otherworldly instrumental music, that features some of the darkest grinding basslines you will ever hear, often accompanied by beautiful shooting melodies over top. It is hard not to be impressed by this team as, at the ages of 20 and 21 respectively, they are already displaying production skills on par with some of the biggest names in dubstep, glitch-hop and drum & bass.

Perileyes has long been an UnheardUv fav and we expect big things from this group in the near future. Be sure to check them out as they make their way around beantown, leaving smoldering craters where clubs used to be.

Exin, aka David Dolan, is a inspiring young Boston based producer that is quickly turning heads around the local EDM scene here. Taking inspiration from such forward thinking producers like Amon Tobin, Eskmo, Shpongle, Jon Hopkins, John Cage among others, Exin cultivates a sound that is both unique and inspiring. Using completely homegrown sounds built in Ableton and Logic, along with some well placed vocal samples, Exin is quickly carving his niche in Boston’s growing bass scene.

His new EP, entitled “Aquarium Collection”, includes three new, and three older remastered tracks. It is available for free via Bandcamp at exin.bancamp.com and is quickly becoming an UnheardUv fave. I definitely recommend you download it, and give it a listen while contemplating something deep.

Boston local dubstep producer FOGES has been doing some serious work lately, and has been kind enough to drop a couple new tracks EXCLUSIVELY on UnheardUv, in preparation for his debut performance at The Big Up Festival on Friday, July 29th in Ghent, NY. Be sure to check out Big Up as one of the hottest local festivals around, and look for Foges dropping heat around Boston all summer long.

Not much needs to be said about this perfect combination of computer-generated destruction. Machine Code is as heavy as it gets when it comes to electronica. Their long-awaited Environments LP forthcoming on Subktrakt will be abandoned-industrial-warehouse-shattering.

3. Tipper

Tipper has been around much longer than the past year but his new album, Broken Soul Jamboree reminds producers and sound designers alike, Tipper is rather untouchable. Besides being one of the only artists to work in 5.1 surround sound, very few artists accomplish the complexity and versatility in their whole career that Tipper can accomplish with a single tune. While his past work is spring-loaded with bubbly bangers, Broken Soul Jamboree shows us that Tipper is also a prolific storyteller.

4. Xilent

This young Polish native has stampeded his way to the forefront of the d&b heavy-hitters scene. His Lifecycles mix of all originals shows his pristine sound-engineering skills and consistent soundscapes. Not a moment of filler in this young prodigy’s tracks. His riffs are reminiscent of super heroes saving the world and his cuts are the supernatural punches they throw. Engage.

5. Lorn

Lorn has busted out of the backwoods of Wisconsin hard! His debut album, Nothing Else released on Brainfeeder is uninhibited by the usual genre barrier that most producers apply to their work. His sound is rich with texture, thick, hearty, and completely unavoidable if you’re into any form of electronica. His performances consist of an energy rarely scene by DJs these days. Make sure to familiarize yourself.

1. Feed Me

Drum ‘n Bass legend Spor‘s House/Dubstep project Feed Me dropped his EP entitled “Feed Me’s Big Adventure” got in just in time to be included in the 2010 roundup, dropping on Christmas and quickly rocketing the dubstep single “Blood Red” to #1 on the beatport’s dubstep chart. The EP is packed full of House bangers as well and is sure to be dropped time and time again in 2011. Until the full EP leaves my permanent playlist Feed Me is definitely my top choice for 2010.

2. Doctor P

A little cliche at this point but that’s because this guy was king in 2010. Sweet Shop easily took the top spot as most played song in 2010 and beyond that Doctor P has dropped banger after banger. This was a no brainer. Check out a couple Doctor P tracks we’ve previously posted below.

3. Starkey

Philadelphia’s long-time resident beat-smith Starkey has a big year in 2010. Dropping a full length LP entitled “Ear Drums and Black Holes” as well as an EP “Space Traitor Vol. 1″ and a boatload of singles and remixes. So many productions of such high quality earned Starkey my number 3 spot.

4. Eskmo

Eskmo has long been a favorite producer of mine, but this year getting signed to Ninja Tune and finally dropping a full length self-titled LP pushed the San Francisco native onto my top 5. The album is in a word.. beautiful.

5. Joker

Joker slips in at number 5 for rocking hands down the best mix I’ve heard all year. Granted the mix contains a lot of unreleased dubplates we wouln’t see released till 2011, but the man’s certainly been productive in 2010, perfecting his own brand of purple sound.
