Eliot Lipp – the IDM master

So this weekend was pretty slow for me music-wise so I figured I’d post on an oldie but goodie that I’ve been sitting on for awhile, and give you all a break from the random dubstep.

This time it’s IDM poster boy Eliot Lipp. I’m not exactly sure what IDM (intelligent dance music) means exactly in terms of a genre… according to wikipedia “IDM tends to rely upon individualistic experimentation rather than on a particular set of musical characteristics.” which to me basically means it could be anything electronic and danceable. Works for me. In Mr. Lipp’s case IDM seems to mean some beautifully laid out trip hop beats generally deriving off catchy high synths. Definitely worth checking out no matter what kind of music you’re into.

The first tune I’m featuring Beam Rider is a straight up banger. Droppable at parties and listenable for when contemplating deep ideas. A need-to-have track for anyones electronic collection

The second track – The Area – is equally as impressive. Notice how to takes this one tiny guitar sample (that you hear in the beginning) and turns it into something massive

He may be a poster boy, but defiantly not for IDM. I would go with Aphex Twin or Amon Tobin. Lipp is the poster boy for sleeping on the dance floor.

hmm you might be right, although I’ve heard his music described as IDM a hundred times. It’s hard for me to argue cus i still don’t really understand what IDM means :P
