Friday Review plus Timeline dubstep

Fresh off of the Vibesquad and Big Gigantic show at Harpers Ferry in Allston, I must first say that I was blown away by both artists. Big Gigantic’s sax hit just right while Vibesquad’s glitchy beats sent the crowd into a late night frenzy. All in all the night went as expected… awesome.

The one unexpected thing that showed up last night in force was dubstep. Both Big Gigantic and Vibesquad threw down some wompage, and while from Vibesquad it seemed more expected, coming a straight Ableton set, seeing Big Gigantic cover some of the hottest dubstep producers right now like Nero and Trolley Snatcher using a saxophone and live drummer was a sight to behold. What was even more impressive was that after such high profile covers, for finale of his set Big Gigantic chose to bust out non other than the relatively unknown and new to the scene DJ Timeline.

New to the scene but definitely blowing up at an exponential rate, Timeline is getting some serious play time recently with his single ‘Feel High’, which is catapulting him headfirst into the dubstep world. So much so that when I checked out his Myspace a couple months ago there were a few dubstep tracks in the player surrounded by a bunch of beats he had made for local Nashville MC’s. Coming back today the backing beats have disappeared, and been replaced by hot dubstep instrumentals that everyone into dubstep should get to know asap.
